Domres poses after being nominated to be Teacher of the Year (Brianna Calzadilla/The Cloud)

Each year, Saint Cloud High’s faculty nominate who they think is the best teacher. This year, Mrs. Jamie Domres, our AVID teacher, was nominated.

Domres is an extremely engaging teacher, as can be seen here (Brianna Calzadilla/The Cloud)

Domres has been a teacher for about 25 years, starting with elementary school and then moving to high school over the years. She taught Kindergarten through Grade Five in the same classroom. “I taught in a super unique environment...It was called multi-age education...It was very innovative.” Domres also was in a mentoring program for 17 years and worked with third graders, helping them get better at reading. Domres performance in these unique opportunities demonstrates her passion for teaching.

Domres had quite a shock when she heard she was Teacher of the Year. “I was humbled, and I was excited that I made the choice to come to St. Cloud High School.” In addition to helping kids with college readiness, she also works alongside other great teachers. “It really wasn’t me who earned teacher of the year cause I work with so many students and teachers and everyone I feel that it’s just a reflection of everyone at St. Cloud High School.”

Most people do not know what they want to be once they grow up. But Domres did! “I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was in fourth grade and I was in the future teacher’s club.”

Domres also noted that she could not have gotten where she is without her family. “I would thank my mother first because she was always my supporter...education was tip top at the top of her priorities for me so I would certainly thank her for encouraging me in whatever I wanted to do...And I would of course thank my family, my husband, and my two amazing children...All of them love that I am a teacher.”

Without Domres, this school would not be the same. On behalf of The Cloud, I am so thankful to have Domres in our Bulldog Family.
